Dear Ephemera
4 August 2008
Mrs Monk has an affection for ephemera, and indeed goes about photographing it for posterity. That, of course, would be something of a contradiction in terms, since to qualify for the category of ephemera, there most be an element of “here today, and gone tomorrow”.
Mrs Monk is so fond of ephemera that she is less likely to get rid of the useless, since she has a problem with the “gone tomorrow” part of the deal. She is in fact more likely to have a temper tantrum if a useless artifact is moved from one place to another, and she has been known to defend a worn out single sock in the forlorn hope that it might one day be reunited with its lost pair, not seen for a decade, or more.
Here is a page of Mrs Monks pictures of what might be described as ephemera.
