Last night on “Jamie's Dream School”, a fat boy and a short man traded insults about each other, failing to spare each other’s hurt feelings and diminished esteem. The insults lacked creative imagination and for that reason, were disappointing.
“Jamie's Dream School” is another doing-good Jamie Oliver TV initiative to solve the problem of class room behaviour. To this end he recruited a number of well-meaning “celebrities” to give some failing students another chance, after they had already “failed”, or so said Starky.
The pompous History professor, David Starkey, has made a career out of being obnoxious and insulting on TV, but forgot that he was in a class room setting, where you are not allowed to be condescending, and certainly not allowed to use the “Fat” word, even with a nervous half-way-apologic grin.
If the fat boy learnt anything at school, he learnt what teachers can or cannot get away with. Teachers can and do get away with the indiscriminate expletive “fuck,” but they can certainly not call a fat boy “fat.”
Unfortunately for the student, you cannot get a GCSE with that knowledge, but you can exact revenge at will on a teacher, and for a bonus, you might even end the offending teachers career. However, the fat boy did not realise that he was in a fact on a TV show, for Channel 4, which is the home of the effing personal insult.
Context is everything, and the fat boy and the short professor did not realise that they had signed up for a “Short Celebrity, Effing Fat, Big Brother, TV Show”.
I am a fan of Jamie Oliver and hope these issues get a good airing and something good comes of it. We shall see.
The “he started it” exchanges were a joy to behold.
He is such a naughty boy that David Starkey. He started it you know. It was all his fault. He had it coming..... The fat boy should tell on him. That is my advice.
