The polling station was busy busy busy today.
Behind me in line was a nurse. Mrs Monk gave her the thumbs up in order to acknowledge the NHS and her support for it and the work the nurse might do for it..
"Yes it’s all about you" I said to the nurse, "and about my wife because she is an immigrant"
My American wife is frequently annoyed by her friends who like to describe such immigrants as if they had pariah status, but were somehow unconnected to Mrs Monk's status as an immigrant. I like to think that is not just Mrs Monk’s waspish hue that makes the difference.
Mrs Monk has paid British taxes for 30 years and educated British children but does not have a vote. Yes, she is taxed but not represented. She is no worse off than me. I am British and have never been represented by anyone I voted for.
But it is not just about the NHS and Immigration.
Having voted Lib Dem and campaigned for consensus politics and AV, I am disappointed with your decision to support the conservatives and keep them in power for the last Five years.
It was my belief 5 years ago that you would have done otherwise and that you should have done otherwise.
I have listened to your reasoning and I don't buy it. I now believe that if you had an even choice of supporting either Labour or Conservative you would have chosen the Tories. Frankly I don't even like the way you use the same Tory language to attribute blame for the banking crisis.
Today I voted Labour.
