Dear Nick,
4 January 2010
Yesterday, I invested in a full tank of unleaded that cost me £70 at Tesco. This was smart timing to avoid today's VAT hike.
Today I would have been required to pay another £1.75, to pay for the mistakes of others.
We had the blame game discussed on these pages when it all went pear-shaped,
See, Who To Blame.
But then we had to decide who should pay to get us out of this mess, and that is why you got my vote.
The who-pays game.......
The Banks have bounced back and are making profit, and those bonuses never stopped flowing, because those highly qualified financiers, are irreplaceable and would jump ship and seek bonuses elsewhere, or so we are told by others, most of whom also receive such bonuses.
David Cameroon blames Gordon Brown, and Gordon Brown blames The Bankers, and the Bankers blame the Regulators who made them make the mess.
So now we all have to take the pain of the VAT hike and other cuts that even Margaret Thatcher would have been embarrassed to contemplate. Yes, most of us vote selfishly, but who would have thought a vote for the Liberal Democrats, would secure taxes that would hurt the lower paid and students and pensioners, more so than the well off.
How did that happen Nick?
Leslie.
