Berlin Maryland Summer 2007
cAT UP a pOLE
There's a Cat up a pole
Who can’t get down and
He might just fall upon
The ground
The fire brigade are preoccupied
Painting the floor of their fire station
And the Berlin Police are similarly indisposed
So we blackmailed the mayor
Who, also, did not care
About cat welfare
Until we mentioned the ......
Publicity
It was a pussy on a pole nightmare
And there were tears and alarm
When the big man came
With a big truck and a big beer belly.
Said if the cat fought back he’d “chuck it”
And when he said “cats, I do NOT love”
We told the tattooed oaf to put on
A pussy glove.
And just how did you get the cat rescue job
You don’t seem qualified.
The cat hating cat rescue goes amiss and
Kitty leaps 40 feet to avoid the fat bellied cat grabber
Cat leap misses the tree limb and tumbles 45 feet
Onto the ground
A belly first thud and scatters into the bushes
One life down and women weeping
And the adrenaline rush into the rough
We said wow and in due course the cat
Meowed
And in time, reappeared seemingly unharmed
A patient Mary longed to adopt
Our new feral redhead friend
With a taste for cat “gourmet”
But a broken spell and broken hearts when
Fickle kitten follows
Another caravan of family picnickers
Who disembark
Hampered with fresh titbit potential
Fair weather friend follows the hunger trail
And we are soon forgotten.
Mary said that she would return
To make sure that he or she is OK
But the Kitten does not seem to know we care
And Uncle Buck said he will return
To make sure Mary is OK
But Mary does not seem to know we care.
