British Human Rights Abuses?
Theresa May was “appalled” by the EU today in a Daily Mail kind of way. Once again the EU found it necessary to tell our government to modify our human rights legislation.
The British are not used to this, and we are more used to pointing fingers at the human rights abuses by other nations, in a Daily Mail kind of way.
Last week it was prisoners votes, and this time it is on the subject of whether or not convicted Pedophiles may be removed from the offenders register after consideration by a judicial appeal. At the moment convicted pedophiles, who may have been wrongfully convicted, are not allowed to appeal for the remainder of their life.
Theresa May must know that this is unsustainable in a civilised society, but she cannot possible admit to this publicly knowing that it would be politically inconvenient. The EU has no such restraint and that is a very good thing.
Meanwhile, an uncomfortable Nick Clegg watched and listened from a nearby bench.
